How to Handle a Roofing Insurance Claim
If your roof has sustained damage or you suspect you have sustained damage, you should have your roof inspected by a professional as soon as possible. This inspection will reveal the extent of the damage and give you a better idea as to whether it’s worthwhile to file a claim.
If you do wish to file a roofing claim, here’s what you should do:
- Notify your insurance of the damage and file a claim, providing them with the date and time of the roof damage, the cause of the damage, a description of the damage, the age of your roof, and your policy number.
- Obtain a claim number from your insurance company.
- Inform your insurance company you would like a roofing contractor present when the adjustor comes to survey the damage, making sure you get their contact information.
- Once the adjuster calls to schedule a time to inspect your roof, call our team and let us know about the adjustor’s visit and we’ll have a team member present.
If your claim has been handled properly, the expense for replacing your roof should be minimal, ideally as low as just the cost of your deductible. If you have a “full replacement” policy, then the cost will be just that of your deductible. If you have an “actual cash value” policy, then the company will subtract the value of your roof from the cost of your repairs and you will be required to pay the difference.
